A Lobster Treat

Seafood diners are relatively common owing to the popularity of the crustaceans and fish the deep has to offer. You might not pass by the seafood restaurant everyday after work, but you would appreciate the occasional treat. Chances are if you order seafood, then you have taken a lobster. With its unique taste and color, it’s become a delicacy appreciated by millions all over the world. You might even find yourself preparing some at home, and in such cases, learning a lobster recipe might come in handy.

Lobster meat is one of the easiest to prepare. It takes a live lobster approximately 5 minutes to cook. Just place it in a pot of boiling water and give it five to seven minutes; more if we’re talking about a bigger lobster. Boil using sea water, but if that’s not available, salty water works just as well. You could grill or steam it as well.

Once the lobster is ready, you can make different recipes with it. Those that have survived the test of time are the lobster Thermidor and Newberg varieties. Lobster Thermidor involves preparing the lobster with cheese, cognacs, sherry and even some mustard, while Newberg entails using some cream, pepper and cognacs. These ingredients are not complete, as others can be added, based on personal preferences.

Other recipes have come up over time too, some out of necessity. For instance, you could get a lobster salad if you are cautious about gaining weight. Lobster raviolis are becoming increasingly common as well. Newer recipes are being unveiled every so often, as soon as a working combination of ingredients is found to work well together with lobster.

Some people prefer to separate the claws from the body when preparing lobster. You should know that those very same claws hold most of the lobster’s meat, together with the tail. The body wont give you much of it- except for extras like the tomalley, which is a delicacy for some even served on its own. Multiple attempts are needed to figure out how to get the meat from the lobster. Unlike steak that you can simply slice with a knife, you need more skill to get the meat from the lobster claws.

As far as nutrition is concerned, lobster is healthy. Being white it has no saturated fats, meaning it’s good for you. Its unique taste is something that your taste buds will want to get a load of on the occasional.
