A Recipe For Dark Chocolate Truffles
Chocolate truffles are a type of confectionery dessert that are very popular in Europe and North America. The candy commonly features a creamy ganache center which is covered in a thick cocoa powder. Most are spherical or curved in shape but can be molded into others as well. To make your own dark chocolate truffles, simply follow this easy recipe.
The items were first created in in the late eighteen hundreds by a chef from Germany. They immediately became very popular and were sold in candy stores across the country. There are three different kinds of truffles: the American, the Swiss, and the European. The delicious treats do not feature any of the expensive truffle fungus, their name is simply derived by their slight resemblance to them.
The very first step is to gather up the tools and ingredients that you will need. In order to make about twenty four pieces you will need a whole pound of dark chocolate which has been broken up into tiny chunks. You will need a teaspoon of an extract of flavor, a cup of powdered cocoa, and a full cup of heavy cream as well.
In this recipe the heavy cream is serving as the filling but it can be substituted for almost anything you want including marshmallows, nougat, or small fruits. The flavor extract could be anything from mint to vanilla as well.
Take the dark candy chunks and place them in a medium bowl and then set it aside. Go ahead and pour the cream in a saucepan and bring it to a boil. Pour the newly heated cream over the bowlful of chocolate and let it sit there for sixty seconds. Add in the flavor extract then and stir the mixture slowly.
After a couple of minutes the ganache will turn black, shiny, and heavy. This mixture should be properly covered and put in the fridge overnight or longer to let it harden further. Put the powdered cocoa into a tray or short bowl so that there’s about a one inch spread. Roll the thick filling cream between your fingers to make one inch spheres or just use an ice cream or dough scoop. Push them across the tray or bowl of powder until they are totally covered and then place them on a large plate or candy dish.
It’s custom for the truffles to be slightly irregular so don’t worry about getting them absolutely perfect.
