Come In Out Of The Cold With A Week Of Crockpot Meals

It’s freezing out there! The last thing I want to do tonight on my way home from work is stop at the grocery store to get something for dinner. Maybe I’ll just go right home and call for pizza delivery. I really hate to think of spending that much money, but it would be so much more cozy than getting from the parking lot to the grocery store and back again in the cold and dark night air. Wouldn’t it be nice if I had planned for crock pot dinners all this week? Why not get a whole week’s menus planned, shop on Saturday during the warmest part of the day, and be done? This sounds like a good plan, indeed.

First, sit down with your favorite crock pot cookbooks and recipes. You don’t want to have chicken every night, so mix up the meals just enough to keep everyone interested and satisfied. Then there’s the grocery list to complete. Most of the recipes have one or two pantry items in common, but be sure to get everything in one trip. Wrap and freeze any meat that’s not in a recipe until later in the week. I would also chop any vegetables needed, and put them in refrigerator bags or containers. Now, on the first day you are ready to throw the ingredients into the crock pot in the morning and come home to a nice, hot meal, instead of running around in the cold. Take a look at this week’s plan.

Sunday: Start with a classic Rotisserie Chicken made right in your crock pot. A deli-style whole chicken, served with your Sunday-best mashed potatoes and fresh vegetable is always a perfect start to the week.

Monday: A Crock Pot French Dip Roast is an easy way to serve a hot and satisfying sandwich for dinner. It may be just a sandwich, but it sure seems more like a meal when you use a good, hearty hard roll and add mozzarella cheese on top.

Tuesday: Time to spice things up a bit with a hearty Mexican Chicken meal. You control the spice, so this meal will satisfy everyone’s tastes. Spoon generous portions over some hot rice, and no one walks away hungry.

Wednesday: Having a meatless meal at least once a week is a great way to stretch your food dollars. A nice, rich Minestrone Soup is just the answer when you want to serve a really filling meatless soup. Go ahead and use chicken broth instead of beef broth if you like. Either way this soup is tasty and satisfying.

Thursday: Time to surprise your family with a Crock Pot Turkey Breast dish that is wonderfully tangy and sweet. The turkey simmers in a beautiful tangy sauce made with cranberry and onion. It looks and tastes incredible.

Friday: Everybody is coming and going at different times and we’re running our legs off. When you have a busier than usual night, leftovers are a great way to accommodate your family’s schedules and fill their tummies. Put all the meals out cafeteria style and let your family dig in!

Saturday: The races are on TV and we’re not budging. So, when it comes time to eat, putting a platter of Pulled Pork Sandwiches on the table and having everyone help themselves, is a great way to enjoy the races and fill our tummies without missing a moment of the action.

Sunday: A quiet day at home, topped off by an incredible Tangy Chicken dinner is a day to remember. Gather the family around the table and see their faces light up when you uncover a platter of juicy chicken surrounded by colorful pineapple, green pepper, and carrots swimming in a bed of tangy sauce.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a wonderful hot meal waiting for the family all week instead of braving the cold to stop at the grocery store every night in order to grab something for dinner? With a little planning and preparation, you and your family can come home to the pleasing aromas of a hot meal ready and waiting. Try coming home to a whole week of hot meals and you’ll never go back to your old, and cold, ways again.
