Critical Home Brewing Beer Steps

More and more people are wanting to brew their own beer. They may want to avoid paying the prices of store bought beers or simply to try their hand and creating a beer. These brewing beer instructions are easy to use and will make it possible for you to brew your own beer.

Everything that you will need should be put in a place that ensure that it is readily available when you need it. There are quite a few things that you will need but you can get a kit that will include most if not all of them. Everything in the kit should be completely sanitized with a bleach solution before you use it. You do not want your beer to get contaminated and therefore have to be thrown out.

Fill a large pot with 2 1/2 gallons of water. Use a muslin bag to hold your grains and make sure that it is tied. Put this bag into the pot and allow the water to almost come to a boil. Take the bag out of the pot and remove the pot from the heat.

Add any malt extract or sugars to the water in the pot while you stir. Priming sugar and fruit extract should not be added at this point as they will prevent the brew from carbonating. Make sure that everything is dissolved before moving to the next step.

Bring the mixture to a rolling boil but it should not be allowed to boil over. Two more bags should be prepared, one with bittering hops and one with finishing hops. The bittering hops should be added immediately and the mixture should boil for one hour. 5 Minutes before that hour is up, the other bad should be put into the pot. If you have any Irish moss or yeast nutrients they should be added at this point. After the hour is up, cut off the heat and remove the mesh bags from the mixture. This mixture is know as wort.

Prepare an ice bath in the kitchen sink and put the pot into it. This should be done only if you do not own a wort cooler. Stir the mixture gently to make it cool faster. It will be finished when the pot is warm but not hot. This should take around 15 or 20 minutes.

The fermenter should be prepared by adding 2 1/2 gallons of ice water to it. If ice water is not available, use the coldest water possible. Warm water will take longer to cool and will increase the overall amount of time required to prepare your brew.

Empty the pot into the fermenter. Use a sanitized spoon to stir the mixture while you add the yeast. Do not add any water to dry brewing yeast even if the directions on the packaging say to do so.

Close up the fermenter by putting the lid and airlock on it. It should then be rocked or rolled for at least five minutes to aerate the contents. You can take a sample with a sanitized cup at this point if you are using a hydrometer.

Take the sample that you took and pour it into the test tube with the hydrometer. When it floats, record the specific gravity and the potential alcohol readings. You can then make a satellite fermenter by pouring the sample into an old beer bottle and putting a paper towel in the top. This should be placed next to your fermenter. The readings from this will be accurate even if the brew is contaminated.

After the fermenting period is past, do hydrometer tests daily to determine if it is ready. The test should have the same results for two days before you begin bottling your brew. If you do not get the same result, wait another day. It is better to wait than to ruin the entire batch that you made.

The only thing left to do now is bottle your brew. There are a few options on how to do this and people disagree on which method works best so you should try them all and see which you like the most. You can immediately bottle the brew, you can let the brew sit and settle for a few days then bottle, or you can put in into another fermenter for five days then bottle.
