Dark Chocolate Happens To Be More Sensible Option
Ask anyone what their favorite guilty pleasure is, and the overwhelming response will be chocolate. We just can’t get enough of the stuff; milk, white, fruity, we love all of it. All we need now is a healthy chocolate do we can enjoy it without the guilt.
Well guess what? There is one. Although we know that chocolate has benefits such as Antioxidants and vitamins, there is stuff in there that isn’t so good for us.
The thing is we mess about with our chocolate something rotten. We get the basic product then add loads of other stuff to it, such as extra butter, sugar, milk solids etc which enhance the flavor but make it very fattening. Dark chocolate, however, doesn’t have any of these added, but there is one more thing to think about.
Chocolate isn’t actually food as far as our bodies are concerned, they will merely store away all the bad stuff and ignore the good bits. This makes our guilty treat even worse for us than we thought!
The trick is to eat chocolate with other foods as well, nuts and fruits are perfect. Eating them together ensures that your body treats the chocolate as food and you get all the goodness from it.
The ideal accompaniment to chocolate is fruit rich in vitamin C, as it works to form a nutritional balance to make sure that the iron from the chocolate gets absorbed and not dispelled. What you end up with is probably the tastiest multivitamin supplement you’ll ever have!
For a chocolate fanatic, I once had the perfect job; as a chocolatier. Temptation was rife, but I stuck to dark chocolate and complemented it with vitamin C rich foods like nuts, dried fruits etc. When I had a routine blood test, it showed that the levels of vitamins and minerals were the best they had ever been, and even better, I put no weight on.
Next time you need your chocolate fix, ignore the fattening and unhealthy milk chocolate and reach for the dark chocolate with the fruit and nuts. No guilt but every bit as delicious.
One last thing, just because you know it’s healthier doesn’t mean you can pig out, be sensible!
