Most of you will most likely be familiar with the traditional sweeter tomato based sauces since they are the most popular. A basic Kansas City Style sauce is a good place to start, however, there are 4 basic styles of Bar-B-Que sauces. 1) Vinegar and Pepper, 2) Mustard, 3) Light Tomato , and 4) Heavy Tomato. There’s even a White Bar-B-Que sauce called Alabama White BBQ Sauce which is Mayonnaise based but I don’t see a lot of variation on this as it’s sorta rare.

Traditional Kansas City Bar-B-Que Sauce:
* 1 1/4 cup ketchup
* 1 cup water
* 1/3 cup cider vinegar
* 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
* 2 tablespoons molasses
* 1 tablespoon onion powder
* 1 tablespoon garlic powder
* 1 tablespoon black pepper
* teaspoon celery salt
* 1 teaspoon allspice
* 1 teaspoon cayenne

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over a medium heat. Stir constantly for 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sauce should be thick. Allow to cool. Store in an airtight container. Refrigerate.

I told you it would be easy! Now you should look around and find another recipe you’d like to try. After a few tries, you may start experimenting with all kinds of BBQ sauce recipes you won’t be able to find at your local grocery.
