Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Low Fat Desserts
The phrases diet desserts, low fat and low calorie do not exactly conjure up images of delicious, sumptuous desserts, do they? In fact, they sound rather depressing. However, low fat does not mean low flavor.
If you are trying to eat less fat, you can do it in one of two ways. You can either eat the same food but less of it or you can eat low fat food and have the same amount of food. If low fat food, and especially low fat desserts, can be delicious then surely that option is the better one.
Why You Must Eat Some Fat
It is important to eat some fat. There are certain fad diets, which cut out whole food groups, and these are a really bad idea because these diets are too difficult to follow. If you are able to replace high fat foods with tasty low fat ones, this is a much more enjoyable, and therefore easier, way to eat.
Fats improve the texture, smell and taste of food. They help with the absorption of Vitamins A, D, E, and K and fatty acids are essential for healthy skin, normal growth and a well functioning immune system. An adult should eat around sixty-five grams of fat every day and about twenty percent of your total calorie intake needs to come from fat.
Some of the modern labels on food can be confusing. What does reduced fat mean? What does “lite” mean? Something that is labeled as fat free must have less than half a gram of fat per serving. Low fat means up to three grams of fat per serving. Reduced fat means the product must have twenty-five percent less fat than whatever it is being compared to. Light or “lite” means it must have at least fifty percent less fat than the regular product.
