HOW TO MAKE A PERFECT STEAK

For the inexperienced cook, making a good, mouth licking homemade steak can be challenging. Ruining it by overcooking or undercooking it could be very embarrassing. However, you can learn how to make a great one at home rather than spending money having one at a restaurant. This is all you need to know.

Since every cut of steak is different from the other, you need to understand the different cuts available and their traits in order to know how to cook them the right way. To avoid overcooking, undercooking or cooking it the wrong way all together, it is good that you know the various cuts. Fat distribution in the cut is the best way to judge which cut to pick.

Know your method of cooking. There are many methods of preparing steak. From broiling to grilling, there is no one ideal cooking method for all steaks. However, there are ideal methods for various cuts. For a mouth licking steak, it is good that you first identify the method you will use to prepare it. For a finger licking home made steak, it is advisable to remove it 30 to 60 minutes before cooking it. This is simply to allow it to come to room temperature before exposing it to a hot pan or grill

Maintain the flavor of the steak by seasoning it rather than masking it. Since steak is naturally flavorful, maintain this flavor other than masking it. Adding some more ingredients to the steak is fine, but these need to be chosen on their ability to complement the steak’s flavor and not to mask it.

Always keep in mind that it is not right for you to poke your steak with a fork. You are advised to just turn it over, as poking destroys the texture of the steak. Do not therefore move the steak unless it is necessary.

Depending on the thickness of the steak, temperature and time vary. In order to know whether your steak is cooked and ready, gently press your finger into the centre of the steak, and see if it bounces back. In case it does not bounce back, then it means it is not yet cooked. When you press and discover that your steak is firm, know that it is ready. Avoid cutting it immediately you remove it from the grill or pan, as this allows for loss of flavor in form of juices. Give it ten minutes to cool.
