How To Throw a Simple and Elegant Dinner Party

Throwing a dinner party is enjoyable, however, it calls for quite a bit of planning. When you are planning, make choices that will permit for the party to stay simple enough that you will enjoy it too, and so that you will not become overwhelmed with party details throughout the actual party. With this in mind, keep it elegant. Planning which goes overboard results in the party appearing fussy. Simple elegance produces a more inviting atmosphere to your guests

Start with the invitations. Send your invitations about a month before the planned date. This time frame will allow sufficient time for your guests to clear that date on their calendar, although not so far ahead of time that they will forget all about it. Craft your invitations so they will be elegant, opting for heavy papers that refrain from being excessively busy. Ask for an RSVP, giving a specific date for reply from your guests so that you to be able to appropriately plan. Upon receiving RSVPs, the host might want to ask about any food allergies. Come to a decision on a dress code for this dinner party such as casual, formal or informal and include this in your invitation. Give directions, if needed.

The next step is to plan out your menu. Plan the menu so that portions allow for you to serve several courses. It will be more elegant to serve each person a prepared plate, rather than passing dishes around the table and having them serve themselves. Creating prepared plates for each meal also allows for the plate to be garnished as it would in a restaurant. Employ a guest to serve wine while you are serving courses.

Set the ambiance in the room. Have lights somewhat dim, yet not too dark that people are unable to clearly see their beautifully prepared dishes. Have your table set ahead of time with simple centerpieces. Play soft, background music. Light candles. Be sure to refrain from lighting candles that are scented. The aroma from these candles competes with that of the dinner being prepared, and the two will not always mix well.

Upon the arrival of your guests, try to be available to greet them. If you are knee deep in cooking dinner, you will not be able to enjoy your guests and your own party. Try to solicit help or prepare ahead of time so that you can converse in a relaxed manner with your guests. Offer drinks and appetizers as guests arrive to prove your an attentive host from the start.
