Kitchen Appliances Generate A Refreshed Environment And Cost Less To Operate
Does your kitchen need to be whipped in shape a bit? One of quickest, easiest ways, and one that can put money in your pocket is new appliances.
Changing the color of your appliances, whether going with the new stainless steel look, or just trading almond for black or white, can give your kitchen a face lift in just a few hours.
However, a new and refreshing look for your kitchen is not the only reason you should consider renewing your appliances. Depending on how much energy they consume, you are most likely to get a rebate if you choose appliances that are Energy Star rated, and all as a result of the ‘cash for appliances’ program. As a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, this program is federally funded with $300 million, but its regulation may differ from one state to another.
Before shopping for new appliances, check information from your state, easily done with an internet search engine, and see which appliances qualify and how much the rebates will be. In some cases rebates are deducted as a percentage of the cost, in others they are an already set amount that may vary, depending on the appliance, from $50 to $200 per item as dictated by the Department of Energy.
Several states won’t be initiating the program until later in the year. For example, Oklahoma will begin its program April 22 and is limiting rebates to one per appliance and two per household. The state is also requiring that the old appliances be removed and properly disposed of, which is not a requirement nationwide. The program in other states has had an early launch and the funds were quickly exhausted – Minnesota is one such state.
The rebate funding may be an excellent way to soften the impact the remodeling of your kitchen will have on your budget, but it should not be a decisive factor. Even if you don’t get a rebate, new appliances can repay you in other ways.
If you replace older appliances with Energy Star qualified models, you can not only give your kitchen a new look, you can save every month on your electricity bill. Refrigerators, for example, are one of the biggest consumers of electricity that we own, behind heating and air, and a new model can lower your monthly bill.
In some states the rebate program may be restricted to certain items, like refrigerators or washers, but even if that is also the case with your state, you shouldn’t refrain from paying the extra $600 for a new stove that will definitely improve the look of your kitchen. If you’re not too sure about it, just consider how much it would cost you to install new cabinets, or a job on your walls and floors, and you’ll see that it’s less expensive and faster, not to mention effortless. While a remodeling job could leave you looking for a contractor and wading through a construction zone for days or weeks, replacing your appliances involves only a trip to the store and scheduling delivery. In but a few hours you can have a brand new kitchen, no mess and no stress.
