Before we begin I would like to mention that you have the option of icing the cookies with nice beautiful festive colours after they are prepared to make them look good. If you are solely interested in how they taste then let’s just move on with the basics of the treat.

We have to make use of those ingredients that we typically use in the preparation of cookies even in case of the Italian Easter cookies but for the addition of some of the special ingredients. Flour, vanilla extract, milk eggs, vegetable oils, baking powder, colouring which is optional, sugar and almond extract are the regular substances used in the preparation of the Italian Easter cookies.

After pre-heating your oven to 350 degrees take the cookie sheet and oil them out. Sugar and butter have to be mixed in a big bowl and made into a fluffy substance. Beat the eggs into this blend. Never forget to do these things one by one.

Once this has been finished you should add the vanilla and almond extract along with the milk and oil. Then you should mix the flour with the baking powder and add them to the wet mix. Once the dough has been prepared roll them into 1 inch balls. Roll the balls out into long 5 inch ropes on a lightly floured surface. Tie them into loose knots and put the cookies one inch away from each other.

The initial baking process is for five minutes on the top shelf of an oven and for five minutes again on the bottom shelf. The cookies by now would have changed into a brown colour. When they have cooled down enjoy them after sinking them into the icing.
