South Africa Recipe

South Africa has a large array of delicacies. South African culture is rich and diverse and it is reflected in their ample array of cuisines. The soil by itself is ideal for plants and the awesome climate and sunshine makes them thrive.

South Africa is sometimes known as the “Rainbow Nation”, a term stated by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and then popularized by the President Nelson Mandela, that defines the diversity of the country’s culture and people. This range is also mirrored on South African culinary, which includes cookery practised by original people including the Khoisan, Sotho and Xhosa speaking people, settler cookery introduced by Afrikaner people and British origin, the cuisine of the Cape Malay folks (those who settled from Malaysia and Indonesia. Then there is the cuisine of people of Indian descent (influenced by Indian cuisine). Additionally, South African cuisine has adopted cooking elements from that of neighboring nations, and this is clearly evident in a few dishes that contain hints of Portuguese cuisine – Mozambique & Angola both have been former Portuguese colonies.
