Summer Time Grilling
The perfect time for barbeques is during the summer months. Aside from the suitable weather outdoors, school is out for the kids and families usually travel to take vacations. Nowadays, it is quite uncommon for American families to go without hosting or attending some barbecue events during the summer. Surveys have shown that a very high percentage of families, more than 90% of them, attend at least one barbeque cook out every year.
Summer is indeed the perfect time to plan a barbeque party. It is important to remember certain things when barbequing to ensure that your party goes flawless.
Grilling Do’s and Don’ts
1.Start with an absolutely clean and spotless grill. You need to remove any bits of food that may have stuck on the grills from your previous cooking because they might interfere with the taste of whatever you will be preparing later on. Make it a habit to completely wipe and clean the grill every time after you have finished with it. Use baking soda to wipe surfaces with and use water and some dish soap to get out the leftover grease from the food once the grill cools down.
2.Make sure to use some nonstick cooking spray on the grates and flat surfaces you will cook on. Doing so will prevent the meat from sticking, especially when you need to turn them over or when it is time to take them off the grill. It is not good for the meat to stick and tear apart, the juices will run out and your meat becomes unappealing to look at.
3. Never place food on the grill until the temperature is correct. The fluctuation in temperatures will cause your food to dry out or burn. If you are using a charcoal grill, make sure that the coals are completely gray before putting the meat on the grill. This will allow the temperatures to level out, and the majority of the lighter fluid to burn off.
4.You can marinate your food to add more flavors in them but avoid using too much because they will cause the meat to burn and dry out. It is because of the high sugar and fat content of barbeque sauces that lead to the food burning easily. To get better results and to avoid any mishaps, just season the food well. If you really want to add on some extra sauces, do so when they are nearly cooked and are about to be taken out of the grill. Let the natural flavors come out of the meat and avoid over seasoning since this is what barbeque is supposed to be about.
5. Searing you meat will lock in the juices and taste, but you do not want to cook your meat at that temperature for the whole amount of time. Once you have seared both sides, reduce the heat to medium. This will ensure that your meat is full of flavor and tender.
6. Once meat is cooked, never put it back in on the same plate you had it on when it was raw. This could cause the spread of many unwanted illnesses. Do not handle cooked meat with the same utensils that you used when it was raw.
7.Avoid poking your meat while grilling. The juices will bleed out through the holes and drip down to the base of the grill. This could result in potential damage to the barbeque grill as well as turning out food that are dry and flavorless. It would also mean more effort has to be put into cleaning the grill after because of all the grease and liquids that need to be taken out.
