Three Delicious Burgers That You Will Love In Downtown Chicago
Chicago may be best know in the food world for deep dish pizza, loaded hot dogs and Charlie Trotter’s Steakhouse. But don’t miss out on these 3 hamburgers.
There is something here for almost every taste — from a delicious steakhouse beauty to the perfect char-burger (from a stand more famous for it’s Chicago dogs.) If you love good burgers, you will love all of these.
1. The Custom House Burger at The Custom House
The Custom House is a steakhouse and is justifiably famous for their steaks. But if you want a really good steak burger, just head to the bar and let your server bring you the Custom House Burger. It’s a steak house steak on a bun.
The chefs in the back grind the same meat they serve up front — top-quality short rib meat and prime steak scraps — and mix them together to make the patties. So even though this is a cheeseburger — it is the real deal. The ultra-juicy pattie is topped with a thick slice of aged cheddar cheese and served on a fresh-made poppy-seed bun. It is served with a homemade tomato ketchup sauce.
Enjoy it.
The Custom House is at 500 S. Dearborn St. and the burger costs $12 (cheap!)
2. Angus Beef Burger at Naha Restaurant
If you feel a craving for a real Angus beef burger, pass by the fast food joints and head for the real deal at Naha.
They top the super-moist and flavorful patty with fire-roasted tomatoes and white cheddar cheese. The lot is served on what might be my favorite “bun” in America — a Sea-salt crusted focaccia roll that is dense and toasted to perfection.
But even this super-dense bun will not soak up all the juices from the burger and keep you arms dry. So take my advice and wear short sleeves.
Naha is located at 500 N. Clark St. and the Angus Beef Burger costs $15.
3. Double Cheddar Char-Burger at Paradise Pup
This small hot dog stand was featured a couple of years ago on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network. You can enjoy looking at the snap shots on the wall while you wait in line. There is ALWAYS a line — even in the dead of winter.
But the wait is totally worth it.
Don’t pass on the Chicago dogs that have made this stand famous — but also don’t miss the Double Cheddar Char Burger even if you have to make two trips. It is worth it. The outside is charred to intense perfection and the inside is moist and flavorful. Make sure they add the cheddar and grilled onions to complete the package of old-style Chicago heaven on a bun.
Paradise Pup is in Des Plaines (North of Downtown) at 1724 South River Road. The Double Cheddar Char Burger is $5.79
