In the Japanese diet, there are a lot of staple foods such as the rice. Rice is used in a lot of Japanese recipes. Special tools are used for rice such as the shamoji which is used in serving rice. For hundreds of years rice has stayed as one of Japanese staple foods.
There are many dishes made from plain rice such as the donburi. Toppings such as tempura, beef, egg and chicken or even eel and salmon are placed on a bowl of rice which makes up the donburi.
Japanese recipes include noodle dishes. The yakisoba is one popular type of noodle dish where it is fried and sometimes vegetables are included. Udon is another noodle dish of the Japanese where you can choose to have it cold or hot with different toppings included. It is made from wheat flour. Ramen, Soba and Somen are other popular noodle dishes of the Japanese.
Japanese dish is known to have their popular dish, sushi. Sushi comprises of raw fish, rice and sushi oil. This type of dish is also a staple food in the Japanese diet. Although said to be the central part of Japanese cooking, sushi is not actually cooked at all but rather eaten raw and fresh. Other raw fish dish is the sashimi.

The Japanese way of cooking has not changed much such as the techniques in cooking and the type of meals. Much of Japanese dishes have spread in many other countries such as China and United States, although most of these dishes are not traditional Japanese cooking.
