What Are The 4 Most Common Cooking Methods
Understanding the various methods of cooking is important if you’re preparing any kind of meals from a recipe. Different ways of cooking come in a number of terms.
Grilled Cooking
Food should be cooked over an open flame or heat if it calls to be grilled. Grilling can be done by charcoal or gas – on a barbeque for example – or it can be done using a grill of some sort on the burners of your stove.
Broiling
Broiling would mean that your cooking is to be directly exposed to a heat source such as a flame. In most ovens, the broil settings would heat an element at the top of the stop instead of the bottom which is used for baking.
Items which are broiled in the oven, place them on the top rack so they’ll be properly exposed to the heat.
Frying and Deep Frying
There’s a little difference in frying and deep frying methods although the process is similar. With frying, they’re done over an open flame or stove element or over any heat source. You can heat oil and butter and cook the food with its heat.
Oil is also involved in deep frying but in this case the food is completely submerged in it. Foods like French fries and doughnuts uses deep frying. It can be dangerious, however, because you’re dealing with boiling oil so proper equipment and safety precautions must be used.
Sauteing
With sauting, you quickly cook food in a small amount of fat. It’s similar to frying but it brings out stronger flavors because of the smaller amount of fat and faster cooking time.
If you know what’s involved with the various terms, planning when following a recipe will be easier. Each method would require unique equipment and ingredients.
