What You Want To Know About Cleaning A Cutting Board

You should always be concerned as to how clean you are keeping your cutting board. The germs and bacteria can be transmitted to food from the board if not properly cleaned after using. When you purchase a new one or are caring for the one you have now there are some important things to consider.

A variety of cleaning methods can be used depending on the type of materials that are used to make the board. You have a choice of plastic, glass, acrylics, and different woods. They all have to be properly cleaning in order to avoid any illness. In using different boards for different foods you can certainly avoid the problem of contamination.

Some report that you should never cut meat on a cutting board at all. The meat taints it and then it is very difficult to clean. It is said that even if you clean this board extremely well after cutting, traces of blood or juice may still remain and this can be a health danger. It is best to use another surface on which you can cut the meat and not have to worry. Dishwashers are said to eliminate this problem but that is still in debate.

You will be surprised that some of the best cleaning products are things you have in your home. For example if you want to give an extra cleaning to a plastic or wooden board then mix baking soda, salt, and some water and then scrub the board. Afterwards rinse with hot water.

You most certainly have hydrogen peroxide and distilled vinegar in your home. Use these one at a time on your board for less than 15 minutes and then rinse after each application. Another cleaner that you can use is bleach. Dilute with water and put on the board, wipe with a moist paper towel and then dry. This is great on a wood board but you must not soak it in the liquid. Another incredible product is vinegar. You will find it an effective disinfectant when used full strength.

Occasionally you will find an unpleasant aroma that you would like to remove. Spread sea salt and rub the board with a cut lemon. There are two benefits to using these; there is no longer any smell and those horrible stains are gone.

If you like essential oils and you would like to use them to clean the board it is very simple. All you do is mix lavender essential oil with water. Place in a bottle and shake well to mix. Then just spray it on without rinsing afterwards.

You should not be amazed that water and soap are also effective. Use a brush, very hot water, and some soap and you will be able to reach all areas that are hard to reach. These cleaning choices are only some that will keep the family from ill health. There are some of these cleaning methods that only have to be done occasionally while others should be done on a regular basis. Make it a point to keep the board clean, fresh, and smelling good.

There is no reason why you cannot replace them regularly. This is not a permanent fixture in your kitchen. Boards that have grooves in them from cutting should be discarded and new ones bought.
